Sir Christopher Pissarides will be providing a lecture on Brexit and its implications for Britain and the EU, while Dr.Kirill Zimarin will be providing students with an overview and analysis of the European Financial System.

Speaking during the opening ceremony that took place on Monday July 18th, the First Lady Mrs. Andri Anastasiades welcomed the 42 students to the country and noted: “We applaud RCB Bank’s initiative to organize a university level summer school here in Cyprus and bring together students from many countries and universities. This summer school does not limit itself to lectures on Banking and Finance issues but also promotes intercultural relations and Cyprus is certainly ideal for hosting such an event. Certain that you will be combining the opportunity to gain excellent knowledge from leading Professors and professionals whilst enjoying the lovely Mediterranean climate, we wish all of you a nice and productive stay”.

Sir Christopher Pissarides warmly welcomed the students to his home country and noted that this summer school takes place at a critical time for the European Union. “Europe has had to face many challenges during these last few years both financially and otherwise. Here in Cyprus, a member of the Eurozone that has successfully completed its rescue programme and exited its Memorandum of Understanding, you will all have the opportunity to gain insights on business, banking and finance but we shall also be examining the implications of Brexit that has become a reality and now dominates the discussion in Great Britain, Europe and the world” said Sir Christopher.

Dr. Kirill Zimarin, CEO of RCB Bank expressed great pleasure in seeing this pioneering initiative taking place and underlined that: “Cyprus, as a credible business centre in the EU, has always been a bridge between Europe and the Middle East and should therefore be promoted as such on all levels. The Cyprus Summer School organized by RCB Bank provides an excellent opportunity for students from various countries and cultures to come together and enjoy a high level academic insight on Banking and Finance but also gain knowledge about Cyprus, its excellent prospects and of course its vast history and unparalleled beauty”.
